Do You Know About NDIS Transport Funding?
Navigating Melbourne—from the bustling CBD laneways to the quiet suburbs of the Dandenongs—is a key part of living a full life. But for many NDIS participants, getting from A to B isn’t always straightforward. That’s where Transport Funding comes in.
What is Transport Funding?
Transport funding is designed to help participants who cannot use public transport without substantial difficulty due to their disability. It isn’t meant to cover all travel costs, but rather to contribute to the extra expenses you face when trying to access work, study, or your community.
The Three Levels of Support
The NDIS generally categorises transport funding into three levels:
Level 1: For those not working or studying but looking to enhance community participation.
Level 2: For those working or studying part-time (up to 15 hours a week).
Level 3: For those working or studying at least 15 hours a week or looking for work.
How Can You Use It?
Taxis & Rideshares: Many participants use their funding for specialised transport like wheelchair-accessible taxis.
Support Worker Travel: Did you know you can also use your “Core Supports” to pay for a support worker to drive you in their car or accompany you on a train?
Capacity Building: You can also use your plan to learn how to use public transport independently—something we love helping our participants master!
At Truecare Support Services, we don’t just provide a ride; we provide the support you need to feel confident navigating your city.
